I may never receive the time I lost, but I look forward to living life, moving forward, and not looking back.

Crime of Conviction
Manslaughter

Year of Conviction
2012

K.J. was convicted and sentenced to 20 years following a trial. She has currently served 10 years of her 20 year sentence. K.J. reports multiple issues that arose during her trial. First, the judge presiding over her trial worked at the same university as the victim’s mother, but failed to recuse himself from the case. Additionally, there was relevant information excluded from the trial transcripts. Finally, the state witnesses changed their stories numerous times during the trial. She feels that she has been “excessively oversentenced” for this crime.
