Legal claims

T.Y. and his brother were convicted at a joint trial in 2006 and both sentenced to death. His appellate attorney, who was appointed in 2010, filed an appeal brief in March 2022. T.Y.'s communication to the Prison Letters Project claims various errors/misconduct, including of the kinds referred to in the "claims" field above: coercion of witnesses; evidence tampering; judicial error; Batson violation; prosecutorial misconduct; ineffective assistance of counsel.

In the 2022 spring semester of a popular class at Georgetown University, “Making an Exoneree,” his case was one of five selected to be reinvestigated by undergraduate students. They flew to California, conducted interviews and made a short documentary, “I Am More,” with students from a related course at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
