D.J. writing from Florida

We do have people by the masses that are willing to sign petitions and protest. I’m fighting for my life here...I don’t want to lose another family member. I’ve been here 15 years. No Mom, Dad, grandparents. Please help me out.
— D.J.

Location
Polk County, Iowa

Crime of Conviction
Eight counts of robbery with a firearm.

Legal claims

D.J. was sentenced to 50 years in prison after a trial by jury. He says that he was convicted as a result of phone records and DNA evidence—but the phone records were obtained without a warrant and the DNA evidence contained multiple DNA profiles. He also says that there is a co-defendent who pled out to a 13 year sentence who is now in the free world and wishes to testify that D.J. had nothing to do with the robbery.

Procedural issues

All of D.J.'s appeals have been denied, and his direct appeal was denied with a court opinion.
