Legal claims

A.G. was pled guilty and received a 30 year and 35 year sentence, to be served concurrently. A.G. was represented by six different public defenders over 6 years, including two who were only on his case for two months. He was told by his lawyers that he had no defense, and that would only need to serve 65% of his sentence if he pled guilty. He subsequently pled guilty and later found out that he would in fact serve 85% of his sentence. He claims that he has continuously written his public defenders about appeals and never received a response.

Procedural issues

A.G. filed a post-conviction motion in February 2018 and was denied in December 2018. He tried to appeal in the 4th Circuit and was told that he needed a copy of his post-conviction file in order to appeal, but the District Court told his family that they have no post-conviction motions on file in his case. He met with a lawyer who told him that he qualifies for Louisiana's Act 104, which allows for individuals to seek post-conviction relief on factual innocence grounds.
