I was railroaded and I want justice. I am determined and vibrant.
— I.M.

Location
Bergen County, NJ

Crime of Conviction
Aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, drug possession, endangering the welfare of a child

Year of Conviction
2013

I.M. was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to life plus twenty-four years, with a release date of 2099. He appealed this conviction directly and collaterally based on prosecutorial misconduct, ineffective assistance of counsel, and other issues, but was unsuccessful in both appeal efforts. In his postconviction appeal, his trial counsel "fell on his sword" to certify that he had been ineffective throughout the trial. He maintains that he was wrongfully convicted and is actually innocent, and that he had an alibi and an alibi witness who was never called at trial.
